PS I Love You announce the release of
new album Death Dreams on May 8th
.

death dreams

To the casual on-looker, PS I Love You’s quick rise to the summit of the intensely competitive Canadian music landscape is the thing dreams are made of. Heck – just over one year ago the band released their highly praised homage to their hometown Kingston, Ontario. Meet Me At The Muster Station was embraced by critics across the globe garnering consistently dazzling reviews. As a result PS I Love You’s Benjamin Nelson and Paul Saulnier began to tour Muster Station around the planet.

Naturally, the band’s follow-up would gather inspiration from the opportunities that the success of Muster Station brought their way. You know, playing gigs all over the world, picking up new fans, making new friends, sharing the stage with artists that you respect. PS I Love You’s new album touches on all of these themes. If the band’s debut was about being from Kingston, album number two is about being away from Kingston. Sounds about right. Right?

While on the road Paul Saulnier began to have reoccurring dreams centered around, as dark as it may sound, his mortality. Triggered by life on the road – these images, created by Saulnier’s subconscious have, shaped the direction of the band’s brilliant new LP Death Dreams.

The album’s jumping-off point is the album’s title-track. ‘Death Dreams’ is a slow burning, brooding instrumental. Darkly beautiful and unlike anything PS I Love You have released to date, the song is a recreation of a melody played by a ‘death march band’ from one of Saulnier’s dreams. Heavy stuff indeed.

The mood lightens with the second track which has become a live favourite over the past few months. ‘Sentimental Dishes’ sees the band returning to a conventional PS I Love You sound with new twists. Death Dreams sees the band experimenting with their formula. The songs are longer in length this time around with more unpredictable changes and parts.

Upcoming single (or focus track as we call them in 2012) ‘Don’t Go’ is Death Dreams’ centrepiece. Featuring Nelson on backing vocals for the first time, the song builds to an irresistible crescendo that fades out and then back into hand-claps and a beat that you just don’t want to end.

Death Dreams was recorded with Muster Station producer Matt Rogalsky on his portable studio in the band’s tiny rehearsal space. No big budget studios for these lads. The album’s photography and design of the album’s artwork was created and executed by Benjamin Nelson.

Death Dreams Tracklisting:
1. Death Dreams
2. Sentimental Dishes
3. Don't Go
4. Toronto
5. Future Dontcare
6. Death Dreams II

CURSIVE: WINTER/SPRING TOUR DATES I AM GEMINI
OUT FEBRUARY 21ST, 2012 VIA SADDLE CREEK, PRE-ORDER NOW

cursive

"It's a schizoid success." - Penthouse

Cursive premiered the second free MP3, "Wowowow", off their upcoming LP I Am Gemini. I Am Gemini will be released on February 21st, 2012 and is currently available for pre-order in the label's webstore (in multiple formats and bundles

Cursive will hit the road in less than two weeks for a mighty seven weeks of winter/spring touring. The first leg of the tour launches on February 12th at the Larimer Lounge in Denver, CO, and includes a sold out show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA on February 24th, before wrapping up on March 3rd with a hometown show at Slowdown in Omaha, NE. After a brief break, on March 22nd the band will head east for another four weeks of shows that include a two-night stand at the Bowery Ballroom in New York, NY on April 3rd and 4th. A current full itinerary is below.

I Am Gemini is the surreal and powerful musical tale of Cassius and Pollock, twin brothers separated at birth. One good and one evil, their unexpected reunion in a house that is not a home ignites a classic struggle for the soul, played out with a cast of supporting characters that includes a chorus of angels and devils, and twin sisters conjoined at the head - who make an appearance in "Wowowow". Recorded at Omaha, NE's ARC Studios and mixed at Red Room in Seattle, WA with producer Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Minus The Bear, Isis), the album marks the first time front man Tim Kasher, with the completed story already in mind, wrote album lyrics in a linear fashion, in order, from song 1 to song 13. The result is thirteen singularly cohesive song chapters that blend effortlessly into one unique narrative to create a dynamic, mind-bending, and imaginative ride.

Cursive is the longtime trio of Kasher (vocals, guitar), Matt Maginn (bass), and Ted Stevens (guitar, vocals), with Patrick Newbery (keys) and Cully Symington (drums).

Here We Go Magic Announce New Album A Different Ship
Out May 8 on Secretly Canadian, First Track Available Now

Here we go Magic

Here We Go Magic are proud to announce the release of their third album, A Different Ship. The LP will be out May 8 and the band have shared their first track from the release, "Make Up Your Mind," over at Pitchfork. To celebrate the release, HWGM will play an intimate set at New York's Knitting Factory on April 26.

The seeds for A Different Ship were planted in late June 2010 at the Glastonbury Festival. Here We Go Magic had been on the road since spring, wowing audiences at Bonnaroo, Coachella and elsewhere with their uncanny live chemistry, turning album tracks into intricately groovy sonic explorations. That had been their sweet spot since their earliest rehearsals together, when singer/songwriter Luke Temple, bassist Jennifer Turner, guitarist Michael Bloch, drummer Peter Hale and then-keyboardist Kristina Lieberson bonded over a shared belief in musical spontaneity and improvisation.

Glastonbury, however, started off rough for the band. Onstage before noon in the scorching sun, they struggled at the start of their set to feel connected to the crowd. “We were playing horribly hungover and groggy in front of hungover and groggy people,” says Bloch. “The crowd wasn't giving us much to work with, except for these two guys standing in front,” Temple continues. “One of them was dancing around like a maniac and I was like, ‘I’m just gonna play for those two guys. Then I realized, ‘That’s fucking Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich!’”

Godrich for his part says, "I am a big fan of this band. They work VERY hard. They are very talented individually and collectively. I was turned on to them by Thom Yorke while we were sharing a tipi at Glastonbury and was awoken by their opening set at the park stage. He dragged me along to see them bleary eyed and hung over. They gave an amazing performance for breakfast."

The band met Yorke and Godrich briefly after their set, and over the next few weeks, Godrich popped up at their shows in London and Paris, eventually proposing to Here We Go Magic that he might lend a hand with their next recording. In particular, the producer said he thought he could help them better communicate their live sound on tape, something he calls "very powerful and unusual."

And he did. A Different Ship is Here We Go Magic’s most remarkable and captivating album yet, with an emotional and musical arc that is alternately calming and anxiety-inducing, and often both at once. “I Believe In Action” and “Make Up Your Mind” sound like they’re being beamed in from outer space, while more earthbound tracks such as “Miracle of Mary,” “Over The Ocean” and “Alone But Moving” amble in a somnolent haze, with Temple’s cool timbre cutting through the fog.

Despite an incubation period of nearly a year, and a writing process that spanned two continents, the nine songs of A Different Ship carry a consistent thematic concern -- what the band describes as an “unresolved tension between valuing being alone and valuing being connected.” Says Temple: “The music is beautiful, but feels like it’s brittle and about to crack. It’s always suspended in between major and minor, happy and sad, trying to find that middle ambiguous place. A lot of the endings of these songs just kind of stop, like things are left suspended, floating in space. That’s a real characteristic of us as a band -- moving forward, even when we’re sort of unsure, and knowing we’ll find happy accidents along the way.”

A Different Ship track list:
Intro
Hard To Be Close
Make Up Your Mind
Alone But Moving
I Believe In Action
Over The Ocean
Made To Be Old
How Do I Know
Miracle Of Mary

MARGOT AND THE NUCLEAR SO AND SO'S:
"PROZAC ROCK" VIDEO PREMIERE, NEW SPRING TOUR DATES,
ROT GUT, DOMESTIC OUT MARCH 20TH, 2012

Margot

Margot and The Nuclear So and So's premiered the first video, "Prozac Rock", off their upcoming fourth LP Rot Gut, Domestic last week on www.PasteMagazine.com . The animated clip, directed by Dom Bloink, can also now be seen here: http://vimeo.com/35697091 . A Prozac Rock single, featuring B-side "Fingertips", is currently available digitally via iTunes and Amazon, and the title track can also be streamed and shared here: http://soundcloud.com/margotcloud/prozac-rock . Rot Gut, Domestic will be released on March 20th, 2012 on the band's own Mariel Recording Company.

The band has also announced a spring headlining tour throughout the eastern US and into Canada. The tour will launch on March 31st with a performance at the sold out CD101 Day Side A at the LC Pavilion in Columbus, OH, and wrap up on April 21st in Atlanta, GA, and includes an April 11th show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY. A current itinerary is below.

Rot Gut, Domestic is the Nukes' rawest take on their evocative, soaring brand of guitar-centric pop. The album follows in the footsteps of the more brazen, rocking songs that comprised 2010's Buzzard (called "masterpieces of controlled tension" by SPIN) and the first four tracks provide a fittingly booming intro. Opener "Disease Tobacco Free" is a propulsive low-end led rumble; squealing guitars and rough-hewn edges augment the sinister air of "Books About Trains"; "Shannon" is a bleary-eyed and grimy, fuzzy bass stomp; and the undulating "Prozac Rock" is a modern pop song's frenetic, slightly spooky sister. The swinging, sweetly twisted tale of "A Journalist Falls In Love" and the rolling "Ludlow Junk Hustle" ease the album's pace, and The Nukes still pen some of the most moving, lush songs today, heard here in the gorgeous, sweeping guitar lilt of "Coonskin Cap".

Singer/songwriter Richard Edwards wrote Rot Gut, Domestic over 26 days in Pismo Beach, CA last spring. Plagued by chronic stomach pain, he'd headed to Pismo Beach - which had become a somewhat mythical place for the band, a respite of calm and healing where they'd somehow always been drawn - following the last days of the band's touring around Buzzard. The album was conceived as the second installment of the band's 'panic pop' trilogy, Edwards composing a new set of songs about Midwestern fringe characters set to his skewed version of the pop music on which he was raised. Upon returning to his current hometown of Chicago, IL, Edwards and the rest of the band headed into Electrical Audio studio with producer/engineer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Bill Callahan, The Walkmen). The Nukes churned out these 12 resounding tracks over 10 days in July before Congleton returned to his Dallas, TX studio to mix the album.

NEW BUILD (FEATURING MEMBERS OF HOT CHIP) RELEASE
DEBUT LP YESTERDAY WAS LIVED AND LOST

OUT APRIL 3 ON LANARK RECORDINGS PLAY SXSW AND TWO SOLD OUT
SHOWS AT MERCURY LOUNGE IN NEW YORK THIS MARCH

Listen to 4 tracks from the album now:
http://soundcloud.com/newbuild/sets/new-build-yesterday-was-1

New Build

New Build are pleased to announce the release of their debut album Yesterday Was Lived and Lost out April 3 on the band’s own imprint, Lanark Recordings. The album will be released on CD, vinyl and digital formats. The eight piece live band will be touring in March in the UK, Europe and the USA to support the album.

New Build formed in London in 2011 and comprises three core members: Al Doyle, Felix Martin and Tom Hopkins. Al Doyle is the lyricist and "voice" of the band. He plays with Hot Chip and the now-retired LCD Soundsystem. He is a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, bass, percussion, strings, and steel pans. Felix Martin, a fellow member of Hot Chip, is a musician, producer & DJ. Tom Hopkins is a studio engineer and electronic composer who has worked with a number of musicians at Lanark Studios.

Yesterday Was Lived and Lost is the meeting point for some pretty strange and varied ideas. These are by and large pop songs, both bold and intimate, which draw inspiration from the eccentricities of British artists such as the Human League, Peter Gabriel, Robert Wyatt, Chris & Cosey, Cabaret Voltaire and Eno, but the production often utilises the building blocks of house and techno music and there are some echoes of James Murphy's LCD productions, particularly in Doyle's super-tight disco guitar riffs.

The refuge of companionship, society and love are all lyrical concerns in these songs, with Doyle's vocals frequently multilayered and mixed with those of fellow Northerner Janine Rostron (PLANNINGTOROCK), the Bolton born vocalist and producer who has been a close friend and collaborator with New Build for several years. In opposition to these upbeat and harmonious elements are lyrics preoccupied with loneliness, addiction and failed relationships.

Ultimately, Yesterday Was Lived and Lost does promise a kind of redemption and in "Finding Reasons" the message seems clear - happiness is to be found in abandoning oneself to music, to rhythm and naked creativity. Here at last is freedom from the disconnectedness of modern life and the sheer weight of memory, desire and regret - a musical utopia which gradually emerges into a crescendo of soaring guitars and percussion, before receding back into calm like the tide on some faraway beach.

Show Dates:

Mar 13 New York, NY – Mercury Lounge [SOLD OUT]
Mar 14 New York, NY – Mercury Lounge [SOLD OUT]

Ty Segall & White Fence announce new collaborative LP, Hair on Drag City

Ty Segall1

Whether you're walking, rolling and tumbling, flying, driving your car, or sitting still and meditating, wherever you go, Hair you are. You don't always see the wild mystery that comes with everyday life on this rock, but your connection to the Eternal is always present. You just can't see it. Today, you're in luck - up to your frontal eye-lobes in luck. Ty Segall & White Fence have thrown their X-ray vision upon you and see the blood rocking through your veins and all the blood vessels in your brain. They can see them...

Hair it is - to stuff the cracks in your mental chrome dome. Hair for you to stare for awhile. Hair grows like grass beneath your feet, opens up your mind and reflects you in the fun house mirror - spreading past your borderlines, bouncing like rubber, growing and grooving towards the sky (with diamonds). Was it yesterday or yesteryear or is it happening now, on five-second synaptic delay? You were tall, you were high...you went farther than you've ever been.

Chanting to and from the dome is your living soundtrack and providing the Hairdressing for your psychic salad are Ty Segall and White Fence sitter Tim Presley with Sean Presley and Mikael Cronin along on the carpet ride. It unrolls from within them and in between them, and electricity takes many forms, from poppy lunges to acoustic strolls to freak-downs at end of the side. Hair gets tangled deep in clouds of guitars and drums and counter-riffs and percussion, then pressed flat with harmony vocals and compression. Whatever got them through the night, it launches the ship into the stratosphere. And Hair you are again.

Coming April 28th, 2012 from Ty Segall and White Fence: Hair.

BRITISH BAND COMES STATESIDE IN MARCH TO KICK OFF THE ENGLISH RIVIERA
TOUR INCLUDING PERFORMANCES AT ULTRA AND COACHELLA

Metronomy

Mercury Prize nominated indie-electro-pop quartet, Metronomy, are set to release The English Riviera Unreleased Remixes, via Big Beat Records and Because Music, on March 6th. As the title would suggest, the collection features thirteen reworkings of tracks from the group's critically acclaimed third album, The English Riviera. The English Riviera, which has sold over 150,000 copies worldwide, was proclaimed by NYLON Magazine the 2nd best album of 2011 calling it a "sexy and sultry...modest masterpiece." In addition to two new reworks of the single 'The Look' (which Huffington Post ranked among their top songs of 2011), the release presents left of center versions by much loved producers Benoit & Sergio, Ewan Pearson, Camo & Krooked, Jesse Rose, Soul Clap, and more.

Comprised of multi-instrumentalist front-man Joseph Mount, keyboardist Oscar Cash, drummer Anna Prior, and bassist Gbenga Adelekan, Metronomy are heading out for a North American Tour this Spring. The tour, which puts the foursome out on the road with Brooklyn indie band Friends, will showcase Metronomy's signature sound and bring a much needed spark of bliss to end the of Winter. The group is particularly excited to announce their inclusion on this year's already sold out Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California as well as Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida. Check out the tracklist, cover art and full spring tour dates below.

CFCF Announces New Exercises Mini-LP with Paper Bag Records

CFCF4

"Dabbling in various beats -- everything from nu-disco to Balearic house to ambient -- minor-key melodies soar and cruise throughout. Think of this as the soundtrack to Crockett and Tubbs brooding after hours." - NYLON

"Silver can evoke bittersweet memories of a bygone era without resorting to pastiche." - Pitchfork
Download 'Exercise #3 (Building)' at www.SoundCloud.com

Montreal-based DJ and electronic artist CFCF has announced the release of his new mini-LP, Exercises via Paper Bag Records on April 24th. Exercises shows a different side of CFCF's ever expanding palette with a series of subdued piano and synth based pieces. Pulling from influences like Philip Glass, Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Borden among others, and using institutional architecture and 70's Canadiana as a framework. Download the first single 'Exercise #3 (Building)' at www.SoundCloud.com

Exercises has a distinctly 20th century feel. Opener "1 (Entry)" lures us in with a melancholy bed of synths, while standout "3 (Building)"'s rolling piano melodies build to a cathartic crescendo. The lone vocal piece, "5 (September)," is a cover of the opener to David Sylvian's Secrets of the Beehive album, refitted with 2-step percussion and wintry pads. This is a change of pace for CFCF to be sure, but no less cinematic and evocative than his 2009 debut Continent, an impressive collage of vintage electronic textures evoking grandiose landscapes worthy of a Michael Mann film. Each track feels like an exploration of lost memories, studies in nostalgia, exercises in spatial remembrance.

Excercises follows a series of evolving mixtapes Silver has released. Do U Like Nightbus? explores the titular "genre" through his remixes of Aaliyah, Ciara and Twin Peaks, while Reincarnation presents a dark mindmeld of exotic chants, pounding drums, R&B crooners and menacing dancefloors. As with his own music, you get the feeling you are embarking on a fantastic journey to an unknown destination.

Excercises Tracklisting
Exercise #1 (Entry)
Exercise #2 (School)
Exercise #3 (Building)
Exercise #4 (Spirit)
Exercise #5 (September)
Exercise #6 (December)
Exercise #7 (Loss)
Exercise #8 (Change)

Featuring Lee Backed By Members of Calexico

Amos Lee

Blue Note recording artist Amos Lee will release a six-song collection of previously unheard songs, entitled As The Crow Flies, on February 14, 2012. The songs were recorded during the sessions for Lee’s critically acclaimed album Mission Bell, which was produced by Calexico frontman and multi-instrumentalist Joey Burns. Mission Bell debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums and Billboard Rock Albums charts when it was released in January 2011, earning the Philadelphia-born singer-songwriter the highest chart position and best sales week of his career. Earning critical raves from scores of media outlets, the album spawned the Triple A radio hit “Windows Are Rolled Down,” which gave Lee his first-ever No. 1 single. Mission Bell also made Q – CBC Radio’s list of the Top 20 Albums of 2011.

This year, Lee is one of the artists featured on the new season of Public Television’s hit program Live
From The Artists Den. Along with Lee, the fourth season roster includes Adele, The Fray and Death Cab for Cutie. Toro Y Moi

ToroYMoi

Toro Y Moi's first commercial release, the "Blessa" single, introduced the world to Chaz Bundick's brand of introspective, atmospheric pop music, and while the A-side wound up laying the framework for his debut, Causers Of This, backing track, "109", hinted at a side of his music having more in common with the oddball pop of Ariel Pink than any of Causers' reference points. as it turns out, around the same time he was experimenting with music software and sampling, Bundick was recording a slew of short and sweet lo-fi tracks chronicling his version of college grad indecision. Now, after two albums, an EP, loads of tour dates, and a move to Berkeley, CA, these songs still mean a lot to him, and they're collected on the retrospective set titled June 2009.

Originally part of the tour-only CD-R of the same name, June 2009 feels like a peek inside the mind of an artist not knowing where to turn once stripped of the structure of school life. He struggles with good friends moving away ("Sad Sams"), the pressing feeling that a move to New York is a necessary career move ("Take The L To Leave"), and the fear that simple pleasures have become a thing of the past ("Ektelon"). But more than nostalgic yearnings for the recent past, the songs are like journal entries- as commemorative as they are therapeutic. Elsewhere, tracks like "Girl Problems" and "Dead Pontoon" show how his first album might have sounded if "109" had been that first single's A-side, with reverb-soaked, angular guitar riffs serving as focal points of the power-pop periphery. Also included is an early version of Causers standout "Talamak," one of his first cuts to make the blog rounds and an interesting insight into the process of reformatting his work to fit with the album. Closer "New Loved Ones" sees Bundick in a rare, intimate environment, accompanied only by an acoustic guitar and in the throes of love lost. With songs varied in style but bound together by their personal subject matter, June 2009 is a portrait of a young man unknowingly on the cusp of a fruitful career.

THEESatisfaction Announce Sub Pop Debut
awE naturalEout on March 27, 2012

THEESatisfaction

THEESatisfaction are Stasia Irons and Catherine Harris-White. Stas was born and raised in Tacoma, Cat in Seattle and Hawaii. The pair live/laugh/love/dance and create in Seattle, WA. They write, produce and perform their own material, funk-psychedelic feminista sci-fi epics with the warmth and depth of Black Jazz and Sunday morning soul, frosted with icy raps that evoke equal parts Elaine Brown, Ursula Rucker and Q-Tip. They met by what was clearly cosmic happenstance at the University of Washington and haven’t stopped the flow since.

There’s an album by ‘70s Blue Note flautist Bobbi Humphrey that’s suggestive of THEESatisfaction. The cover is black and white, Humphrey’s afro full and wide; next to her radiant smile a description is inscribed, a paraphrase of which might read:

THEESatisfaction. Where are they coming from? Where are they going to? If we're straight on our priorities, you'll be listening to their album while I tell you about some of the answers...

First principle: they’re positive energy. Black energy, black women leaping oceans and continents at a single bound. With positive strength of purpose.

Further, they’re black purity. Hear that in their intonation. Without trickery. They know the gimmicks, scorn to use 'em. Rather, they'll face you and relate what's in their hearts, faithfully and incorruptibly.

Immediately embraced for their singular sound, unflinching commentary, and immortal groove, Stas and Cat made friends, fans and family from coast to coast via their own immaculate grind; a combo of sharp digital hustle and self-booked, self-financed tours that connected them to like minds everywhere. Even crowds with nary a right foot between them find the steps when indoctrinated with THEESat’s unorthodox but right-on-time rhythms. Synchronized, sinewy and sensuous, the regal Stas and Cat channel the higher, whipping like waves of space-borne radiation onstage, leaving a trail of glowing observers abuzz like Geiger counters.
Like their comrades Shabazz Palaces (you may have heard these two on last year’s move Black Up), THEESatisfaction came upon the scene with lovingly handmade CDs of their self-released albums, the first of which was 2008’s That’s Weird. All has been in preparation for the album they’ve envisioned for years, their debut full-length on Sub Pop Records, awE NaturalE.

THEESatisfaction, the Queens Supreme. Bring yourself.

APTBS will also tour Europe soon - dates are forthcoming.

RECENT PRAISE FOR APTBS
"A wall of sound does not even begin to describe the effect on the ears when the New York band A Place to Bury Strangers performs.
From the pulsing floor, through your toes, and up your spinal column, everything in your body starts to tremble…a must-see. More than just a shock to the system, the trio’s music is completely solid."
- NYTIMES T MAGAZINE

"There's a '60s paisley pop structure to this, to which layers of doomy sonics and volume are added in typical APTBS style…Theirs is a sound you need to feel in your chest, even if you (wisely) wear earplugs."
- BROOKLYN VEGAN

"There's no coy nerdery here. A Place To Bury Strangers are as upfront and as lurid as they always are when they're simultaneously torpedoing one's notions of the melodic and the blaring."
- RCRD LBL
